Preschool at 3 or 4 years?

Shaquita Wernicki: Some children never attend preschool prior to kindergarten...they have a parent or family member...maybe even a nanny or other childcare resources to enrich their life.They may do what you do...Kgym...library...park...family time...home learning time. I sure hope you don't buy into the pressure....that some preschools tend to push parents into thinking..."your child is behind academically we'll need to enroll him right away!!!"...please...children need experiences and time to grow with a little nurturing love that teaches along the way...make no mistake here...you are making a good choice..it sounds like he is on target....Show more

Douglass Sarley: Waiting until he is four is fine. My friends kid didn't attend preschool at all and he went to kindergarten without a hitch! I will say that if you find a good preschool it can do wonders for your child. My three year old son just start! ed preschool two days a week for three hours a time and he LOVES it. He is one of the smartest in his class and since he hasn't been in a daycare type setting before its all new and fun to him. He likes to play with the other kids and his teachers are great. Dawn Saha: My son learned a lot from me at home. What he did not learn from me is how to sit in a chair at a table, how to play nicely with others, how to form a line with his classmates, how to share, how to say the pledge of allegiance, how to raise his hand if he wants something, how to be patient, how to open a pack lunch, etc. I put him in Mothers Day Out 2 ! days per week instead of full day preschool. The MDO program ! I selected was very educationally focused. I put him in at 3. Since money is an issue, I would suggest putting him in at 4 and continue what you are doing at home.
