What is necessary to take camping?

Caleb Chapman: look at the gear in the link that might help you out some

Emeline Albracht: It isn't necessary, but depending what you are doing exactly it can be a good idea. Benefits of a stove: Better control over the heat Less time spent finding fire wood Leave no trace (this is popular amongst backpackers who like visiting pristine locations) Less work if it just rained Benefits of a fire: Fire is cool Can be used for warmth You don't have to buy/carry a stove and fuel Building a fire increases your confidence in the wild Cooking on a fire is more difficult than on a stove. Titanium pots and pans are almost worthless on a fire. Aluminum is usable, but doesn't spread the heat as much. Cast iron works the best as the heat will be the most evenly spread, but it's very heavy. If you are cooking the next morning and didn't extinguish your coals, what you can do is gather some tinder and wood and restart your fire using the already warm coals. Once you have some flame! s going and the old coals are red hot, separate them out and use them to cook with. They'll provide consistent heat and stay hot long enough to cook....Show more

Russel Gajate: Bring things that you want to use. Reyes Brunell: Nothing much to add, but if you are camping and there might be bears, search on how to make a bear bag. If not, lock your cooler using bunjee bands to keep 'coons out.

Ha Wolski: If you're really interested in camping then you need to start reading and researching everything! you can find about it, starting online, at your public librar! y, and bookstore or amazon.com. First and foremost camping requires knowledge, otherwise you're limiting your options to what you may have experienced as a child or what you may have seen on TV, and let me tell you, things have changed. It sounds as if you don't have any gear and are thinkin' of headin' over to the Wal-Mart to settle for whatever they have, and that might work for this one trip, but by the time you get home and think about it, you'll realize you bought a lot of junk. Or if you stop by the local chain camping/hiking store and buy what the salesman suggests, you'll get back from your trip and when you think about it realize you bought a lot of expensive junk. Helping you avoid these initial mistakes is my only concern here....Show more
